today was much better than yesterday...i know i sound bipolar and shit, but i think it's going to be like this...different day by day...at least until i fully get used to everything.
this morning was spent going to the police station for an interrogation session as to why we're here..."what are you studying? dance? why dance? kannada? hindi? what??? WHY???" and just looking at our passports.
luckily, it didn't take too long, since momma jess is the queen of organization and got everything filled out and together for them before we even went.
we went to the Hotel Sandesh for lunch. it's really not GREAT, but it's such a nice change from indian food (it's much more asian/chinese in feeling and taste) that that's really all i needed.
we went on an adventure this afternoon. after exchanging some money, we hailed 2 rickshaws to go to downtown JR Circle. the first rickshaw ride was out of control. we went HURDLING down the street, zooming in and out of traffic, crossing lanes, etc. srsly. thought i was legit. gonna die.
bought some silk shit nice and soft. i just walk around with it stuck to my face in my room. v.soft.
we also went to the flower market. when we first got there, there was some bizarre stage set up and some dj/performers doing some indian music show thing, but there were so many people there, and we kept being accosted by beggar women that we left and came back later. walked around for a bit. some people bought garlands to hang in the room...5 R. for a meter of hand-strung flowers.
i can't even express how cheap this country is...like, there are times i'll shell out like, 1000R for something but then i realize that's only like, $20. and for REALLY good silk or something, that's next to nothing.
at dinner tonight, i spent 200 R (which is really like, $4) on a buttered daal curry, naan, veggie pakoras, a gin and tonic, bottled water, and tea. FUCKING $4!!! a good gin and tonic in the US would be like, at least $7. at least. it's really nuts.
also taking good polaroid pics. maybe i'll find cheap film here too.
AND. set up a dinner date with the americans for wed. night...hopefully it works out. we'll seeeeeeee.......
**PS. THOSE SPIDERS I'VE BEEN KILLING IN MY ROOM DECIDED TO START JUMPING. MAKES MY LIFE 23923094843 HARDER. THX, SPIDERS**
ok, time to go watch Wet Hot again and get some sleep.
