back in mysore...i don't know, there is just something comforting about being "home"...i love all the traveling, it's all really interesting, but i also like this feeling of coming back to somewhere familiar.
that is, however, until that familiar place becomes a jungle.
we landed in bangalore around 6:30 pm, and actually left for mysore around 7.
we arrived at 11:45
since we had the keys to our rooms all break, no one ever was able to go and make sure they were clean, etc. so i walk in the room, and the first think i see are little turds all over my bed, my desk, the floor, my dresser, etc. geckos. gross.
also, that weird invertebrate thing must have talked up how kind i was to all of it's friends, because now i have 5 living in my room...and not just my bathroom...they've migrated to the bedroom.
so i went to check out my bathroom. HUGE COCKROACH. sprayed it with roach killer to death...more poop on the window sill. spiders. mosquitoes. everything.
THEN, as i was climbing into bed, another roach popped out of nowhere and scrambled across the mattress. Roach-Kill #2 for the night. a few spiders later, i was too unnerved to do anything but unpack and watch movies on the computer.
luckly, i was able to have them change my sheets/clean my bathroom/sweep my room/take my garbage this morning.
so, one of the major complaints of this trip so-far has been how people feel that our Rs.175 per dinner isn't sufficient enough to eat a full meal. we all knew that's a lie...of course you can eat for much much less than that...the problem has been, though, that we were never told of good places to eat in mysore that aren't that expensive.
to fix this problem, raju/vidya/ed/bahater/crazy bus driver/10 girls took the handicapped bus around mysore on a tour of cheap dining places that won't make you sick. after about 11 suggestions, we stopped at this one place that didn't look like very much from the outside.
we were so wrong.
i had the most delicious onion dosa with coconut chutney ever (accompanied with a plain fresh lime soda)...and the whole meal cost me only Rs.28....THAT IS LIKE, $0.60. and the thing was huge. the bill for our table of five (where we ordered 3 onion dosas, 1 masala dosa, naan w/curry, sweet corn soup, a bottle of water, 2 fresh lime sodas, 2 pepsis, and 1 7up) was only Rs.167. that's less for all five of us than any individual's nightly stipend.
will most definitely be taking advantage of all this.
oh, and today was the 60 day mark. we've been here for 60 days, and have another 60 left.
sure is flying by...
and i smell so it's showertime for this kid.
